Kadriklok Kobej, Kaloplok Iokwe im Ba Einwot Juon!

The MICS, along with Jo-Jikum, formed the “Einwot Juon” Coalition in 2019, seeking to reduce the amount of single-use plastics in our landfill and on our reefs. The coalition seeks to do this though expanding the current RMI plastic bag ban to incorporate more products and by encouraging more alternative products to be offered and utilized on island. This coalition has received broad support and engages members, such as Majuro Atoll Local Government, RMI Environmental Protection Agency, Miss Marshall Islands, Marshall Islands Marine Resource Authority, and more.

This year, the coalition will be working with the Likiep and Wotho community to:

-raise awareness and address behavioral change to utilize re-usable diapers for children

-train 4 women and youth from these two atolls on how to sew re-usable diapers

We also plan to have the amended legislation to expand the current Styrofoam and Plastic Bag Ban of 2016 introduced in the Nitijela 2022 session.

Continue with the Einwot Juon Campaign through awareness and clean-up activities on Majuro and Kwajalein.

Our slogan, Einwot Juon, means “never mind” in Marshallese. The idea is for individuals to say never mind to single-use plastic items when offered and utilize their alternative option instead.
